Last Thursday was spent making baskets at Jean Ann and Crawford Balch's workshop in Debenham, Suffolk. We had a lovely day meeting up with the group of basketmakers who used to get together fairly often to make baskets of different sorts. I was very pleased with my basket although the border is not quite level (which was pointed out to me by Barry after I had managed to make myself believe it wouldn't really show!). I put a handle on mine because there were a few kinks in the border.

Bardwell art exhibition 2007
I demonstrated spinning at Bardwell again this year, and although we didn't have nearly as many visitors as usual people did seem interested in all the demonstrations going on. The demonstrators included an artist drawing or painting portraits of vsitors, a felt maker, a cake decorator, a woodturner and an artist using pastels to produce a landscape.

Barbara Hepworth's studio
While I was in Cornwall I went to St. Ives and visited The Tate and Barbara Hepworth's garden. I had been there before but the weather was lovely this time and I took lots of photos of the sculpture.

Weird and Wonderful Wood 2007
Visited Weird and Wonderful Wood today at Haughley Park. The weather was great and there were some wonderful carvings, sculptures and all things wood. I bought a metal crocodile and a bag woven from palm leaves from Zimbabwe and a necklace made from interlaced rings plaited from some sort of leaf I think.
There were lots of glass sculptures in the grounds by Danny Lane, an American sculptor and they looked really wonderful there.
A lovely day.

Spinning at Bardwell windmill
I spent the day spinning bamboo fibre in a tent at Bardwell windmill, Suffolk, while it was pouring with rain outside. When the sun did make an appearance it got very hot in the tent but most of the time it was cold because of the rain.
Nevertheless, people were very interested in my spinning and I felt I had done my bit for National Windmills Day. The next time I spin there will be at the Tythe Barn in Bardwell in September - I hope the weather will be better!
A morris dancing troupe turned up and danced in the rain and seemed to enjoy themselves - I think they had been to the pub beforehand and would be going back afterwards.
